the
cultural
continuum
between
the
Caribbean
and
the
Gulf,
with
a
focus
on
post-plantation
societies,
musical
traditions,
carnival
practices,
and
the
complex
notions
of
“créole”
identity.
Inspired

the
conversation
will
delve
into
the
interconnectedness
of
cultural
expressions
across
the
Americas.
Our distinguished panelists—Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes, musician and cultural ambassador from New Orleans; Mélissa Laveaux, Haitian-Canadian singer-songwriter and Villa Albertine resident; and Bertrand Dicale, French journalist and author specializing in Creole music—will share their insights and experiences.
They will be joined by Dr. Damjan Rakonjac, Professor of Musicology at the Moores School of Music, and Dr. Kavita Singh from the Department of English, who will co-chair the discussion and guide the exploration of cultural practices and identities that transcend borders.
