Tony Hoagland has published four collections of poetry, including What Narcisissm Means to Me, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and a collection of critical prose on poetry, Real Sofistikashun. His books and work have received the Brittingham Prize from the University of Wisconsin Press, the James Laughlin award, the Jackson Poetry Prize, the O.B. Hardisson Award for teaching, and the Mark Twain Award for humor in American poetry. He has received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment on the Arts, and the Academy of Arts and Letters. His poems and essays about poetry have appeared widely; he teaches in the graduate creative writing program, and elsewhere.
Last year, his essay "Twenty Poems That Could Save America" was published in Harper's Magazine online. His program Five Powers Poetry, an intense seminar designed for high school and other teachers who wish to teach poetry, has been staged in cities around the country. His next two books, a collection of critical prose, and a fifth collection of poems, are scheduled for publication in Fall 2014, and Fall 2015 respectively.
