University of Houston Awards
These CLASS faculty members were recognized on April 24, 2013 at the Faculty Excellence Awards ceremony:
This award is given to a previous University of Houston Teaching Excellence Award Recipient who in 10 years or more of teaching has made sustained and significant contributions to education. The recipient is honored with a trophy and a prize of $25,000, divided into a $15,000 cash award and a $10,000 in departmental support. In the subsequent year of the award, the recipient will mentor other faculty and serve as an adviser to the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Two awards each at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professor rank are presented individuals who have demonstrated great potential (Assistant Professor) or established a growing record (Associate Professor) of outstanding research, scholarship or creative contributions. Two awards at the Full Professor rank are presented to individuals who have complied a substantial continuing record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities. Each recipient receives a trophy and a $5,000 prize.

These awards are given by the UH Commission on Women in recognition of faculty scholarly achievement. Recipients are honored with a $1,000 prize.

This award recognizes clusters of faculty in both formal and informal programs who demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and student success. A cash prize of $30,000 is distributed among the members of a group of faculty who have who have worked together collaboratively in the design, implementation and evaluation of a course or a series of courses to improve student outcomes and who demonstrate effective and innovative teaching over a three year period of time.
