  • Roman Bible

    Roman Bible

Roman Bible is a painter, graphite, and charcoal artist. Self-taught from a young age they began chasing art classes in every year of schooling they could. After graduating with an associate’s degree in fine arts from San Jac South, they continued their education at the University of Houston-Downtown. It was there they began really delving into the world of art and local Houston artists. The bachelor’s degree of Humanities required them to take beginning classes in Non-Profit leadership which is when the spark of inspiration struck them to begin dreaming of their future career in the arts. Throughout this time, they developed a goal of one day creating a LGBTQIA+ Art Space that would bring together people of all ages, backgrounds, and demographics. In 2017, they graduated with a Bachelors of Humanities and a minor in Fine arts and as Magne Cum Laude. Afterwards during a four-year gap in schooling, they realized their education and career needed to be furthered before they can achieve their goal. In Spring 2022 they began their educational journey again with the University of Houston’s Arts Leadership program. This program has given them the tools, knowledge, connections, and most importantly confidence they needed to thrive in the field of arts in the non-profit world. Now they are finishing up a fantastic and successful internship with Houston’s FreshArts ready to embrace and grow in this city’s art world.

“I was so nervous when I began my journey in this program. The imposter syndrome had me second guessing everything I had completed until now. But with the guidance of so many amazing professors, and the support of my peers in the program I realized that I truly deserved to be here. So many people have my thanks and forever love for their guidance and knowledge they’ve gifted me. This program doesn’t just earn us a degree it gives us the confidence we need and deserve to be successful leaders in this field. “

  • Jordan Ellisor

    Jordan Ellisor

Jordan Ellisor is a blossoming musician, composer, and arts leader whose work explores the intersection of classical music and social justice. They are especially interested in how the genre evolves in response to the society around it, with a particular focus on the ways it intersects with race in the United States. At the same time, Jordan is drawn to more light-hearted and quirky pursuits, aiming to infuse their work with whimsy and absurdism in a world that often suppresses individuality and child-like wonder. Through their creative practice, they strive to cultivate spaces rooted in authenticity, curiosity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and growth. In addition to their work as an arts advocate and performer, Jordan is also an educator, teaching horn across several Houston-area school districts, including Cypress ISD, Humble ISD, and Galena Park ISD. They hold a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Sam Houston State University and will earn a Master of Music in Horn Performance and a Master of Arts in Arts Leadership in May 2025. Their future goals include pursuing a doctorate in music. Outside of music and nonprofit work, Jordan enjoys cooking, trying new foods in Houston, crafting, all things cardio, video games, and turning their brain into mush through music theory and composing.

“Thanks to Arts Leadership, I no longer fear what the future holds. I now have the skills and opportunities needed to make a meaningful impact within classical music and the broader arts scene. This program also helped reignite my creativity, pulling me out of a three-year burnout simply by surrounding me with so many authentic, inspiring, and creative people. With its wealth of knowledge, resources, and constant encouragement, MAAL is helping me grow into a stronger artist, a more confident leader, and a more well-rounded person overall. I hope to take everything I’ve learned and use it to support the arts nonprofit world—and hopefully even inspire the next generation of artists and arts leaders along the way

Class of Fall 2024

  • Alexandra Farmer

    Alexandra Farmer

Alexandra Farmer is a professional saxophonist from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. In 2009, her family moved to Dallas, Texas at the start of her sixth-grade year where her love of instrumental music began. Though a devout instrumentalist in grade school, she always had a keen interest in business and developed a "hustler mentality" early on in middle school where she used to sell Kool-Aid and sugar bags for 75 cents. They say old habits are always hard to break because she used her high school years to grow musically and win multiple superior ratings in UIL competitions while being a walking vending machine for her fellow classmates. Despite her deep passion for music, she convinced herself that her college years would be spent developing in business, so she enrolled as a business administration major at Prairie View A&M University where she attended on a full merit and music scholarship as a member of the proud PV Marching Storm Band.

She loved business but her desire for music - learning about it, performing it, exploring it - became insatiable. After just one semester, she was sure music and the arts were her true calling, so she changed her major and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Comically, she swore to her high school directors that they wouldn't catch her near a band hall podium as a director but yet, it's what her mission became as she started her graduate program at the University of Houston.

“I began KGMCA's Art Leadership Master's program as a determined opportunist looking for the perfect way to help me bridge my interests of business management and the music arts together. I am completing the program as a well-equipped music leader confident in my ability to elevate student music program curriculum and experiences now and into the future.”

  • Gabriela Meza

    Gabriela Meza

Gabriela Meza is an artist and newly emerging arts leader based in Houston. She developed her passion for the arts from a young age, participating in arts and crafts after-school clubs in middle school and taking piano classes throughout high school. Convinced about pursuing a career in the arts, Gabriela first completed a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the University of Houston. The program allowed her to learn about different subjects and practice different media, including drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, and digital tools. In addition, she minored in art history and education during her undergraduate degree, which led her to learn about the cultural contexts of art and practice student teaching for a year.

Deciding to pursue a higher degree, Gabriela applied to earn a master's degree in arts leadership. This master's program allowed her to synthesize what she knew about art and working with children with what she learned about leading public art programs. As a result, Gabriela was able to successfully plan and execute a summer art camp at the MFAH. In the future, she would like to continue to apply her knowledge and experience by becoming involved in educational art programming, such as leading community art projects for museums and galleries.

"The Arts Leadership program has equipped me with the technical and interpersonal skills I needed to pursue a career in the non-profit art world. The program allowed me to understand and practice some of the heavy work behind making a non-profit organization operate. I send my deepest appreciation to classmates, professors, faculty members, and community/non-profit partners who helped shape my experience."
