DNA resequencing means sequencing an individual's DNA when the reference sequence for the species to which the individual belongs to is already known. Different individuals of the same species differ in their DNA sequences. Analyzing these differences in DNA sequences of different individuals can lead to significant advancements in medical science. Cost of DNA sequencing is directly proportional to the genome size. At the same time, for medical applications, the genic sequences are usually more interesting than the vast non-genic sequences. In our approach to reduce cost of human genome resequencing, we add a step before actual resequencing to filter out as much non-genic region from genome using probes. The key steps of the project involve development of algorithms for probe set selection and probe set evaluation.
