If a picture is worth thousand words, a video is worth millions. In recent times digital videos have been extensively used for educational purposes and distance learn- ing. One of the major methods of recording classroom videos is using Tablet PCs [1]. Eorts have been made to leverage this fact and make classroom videos more accessible to students [14, 6, 3, 15]. To make it more practical to be used by students and faculty from dierent backgrounds and needs we must nd a balance of features and come up with a solution that behaves dierently for dierent kind of users.
The work presented here is the culmination of Indexed, Captioned and Searchable Videos (ICS Videos) project. More specifically we describe how we designed, de- veloped and evaluated the ICS Video Player. Our target audience were students of varying needs. For instance, for a deaf student, other than the video itself, the second most important feature is captioning, and, for any student during exam, since, time is an important factor, that student wants to be able to nd topics of interest inside a video. Search and captioning in addition to indexing are featured in the ICS Video Player.
We start with some background information about the video indexing process which includes the Indexer[3] and content extraction using OCR[15]. We then move towards detail description of Captioning and Search feature. Finally, we describe how we evaluated the video player with the help of students and what were the result of that evaluation.
