Award of $4,000 to Support Career Goals
Abram Riggs, a junior geology major in the University of Houston’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, received a Houston Geological Society Undergraduate Scholarship of $4,000 for the 2024-2025 academic year.
“This scholarship allows me further opportunity to focus on my studies while not worrying about how to fund my time in college,” Riggs said. “It will give me time for more field work and research instead of working to pay off my tuition.”
He is working with Professor Michael Murphy doing structural geology research on the faulting of the Little Hatchet Mountains in New Mexico. Riggs has a growing interest in geomorphology and plans on pursuing a master's degree. He is also interested in working in industry, leaning toward the environmental geology sector.
The award was announced January 8, and all scholarship recipients will be recognized at the HGS Foundation meeting in February.
