Ombudsperson Information
The UH Graduate School has an Ombudsperson for Graduate and Professional Students. The Ombudsperson provides a safe setting for graduate and professional students to confidentially raise and discuss their concerns about workplace and academic issues, address interpersonal difficulties, and receive assistance in identifying options for resolving the conflicts and concerns.
What an Ombudsperson Does
- Provides a confidential forum for raising issues and expressing concerns.
- Listens without judgement and offers impartial feedback.
- Assists the graduate/professional student in exploring options to address concerns.
- Identifies and refers the graduate/professional student to resources for addressing problems and concerns.
- Clarifies policies and procedures that apply to the graduate/professional student’s problem or issue.
- Provides coaching on effective communication for difficult conversations.
- Analyzes and reports trends in complaints and concerns, and provides recommendations for institutional improvements.
- Promotes highest standards of university governance and a supportive, ethical and healthy organizational culture.
UH Ombudsperson - Funda Suhin, Ph.D.
Dr. Suhin is an associate professor of supply chain management. Her teaching and research interests are in operations and supply chain management. She is passionate about the UH community and student well-being. Over her career, she has worked with graduate students in a wide variety of roles, including teaching graduate courses, directing graduate student research, and coordinating a doctoral program in Bauer College of Business. She has served on numerous committees related to graduate student education and policies, and as a graduate student mentor.

Internships/Fellowships
NASA Office of STEM Engagement internships leverage NASA’s unique missions and programs to enhance and increase the capability, diversity and size of the nation’s future STEM workforce. Internships are available at multiple NASA Centers and provide students with the opportunity to participate in either research or other experiential learning, under the guidance of a mentor at NASA.
Applicants for this internship must be U.S. Citizens and meet a minimum 3.0 GPA requirement.

Scholarships
The University of Houston Foundation scholarship system is now open and accepting applications for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The system will match you to scholarships based on your answers from the General Application. You must be a sophomore or above, including graduate students, and have a 3.0 GPA.
To get started:
- Login to the system or create an account using your username (email address) and password.
- Complete the General Application. The system will sync with your data and automatically match you with scholarships for which you meet the criteria.
- You will receive a ‘Successful General Application Received’ email once your application is successfully submitted. You can check the status of your application by logging into the system at any time. Communication regarding award selections will be made via the email address used to login.
If you already have an account in the system, when creating your ID, you will need to use the same email address that was used to establish your account last year. This will link you to your existing account. If you enter a different email account, your accounts will not be linked. For questions regarding which email was used, please email scholarships@uhfdn.org and provide your full name.

Deadline: April 13
The NSM Alumni Association scholarships are open to incoming undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarship awards are given to students in all NSM departments.
Eligibility: Must be an NSM graduate student in good standing at UH, must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, must have 18 or more semester credit hours remaining in the degree program at the time of the scholarship award. The recipient must enroll in, and complete, a minimum course load of 9 semester credit hours (full-time equivalent) in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. Application also requires a short essay.
