Support for The Boldface Conference for Emerging Writers
Every spring the editors of UH’s undergraduate literary magazine, Glass Mountain, host The Boldface Conference for Emerging Writers. This week-long conference is designed for student and community writers to focus on the craft of writing through workshops, readings and craft talks. Workshops are led by UH Creative Writing graduate students and Featured Writers are program alumni. For more details and registration information please visit the Boldface website.
The Rowan Foundation generously supports the Boldface Conference by increasing the number of scholarships available to non-Houston students, inviting two additional visiting writers/editors through honorariums and travel/lodging stipends and increasing conference visibility through advertising within the Houston community.
The Boldface Conference works with literary organizations from across the country to nominate outstanding writers and literary citizens to receive the Rowan Scholarship to participate in the conference. The 2024 Boldface Conference welcomed, from left to right, Sofia Koyama (Kundiman), Zoe Leonard (Asian American Writers Workshop), Samyak Shertok (Southern Methodist University), and Yolanda J. Franklin (Cave Canem). Not pictured: Carter Guffey (Our Lady of the Lake).
