Akua Debrah is a land economist and an expert in mining policy and sustainability, with over a decade of experience in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining the University of Houston as an adjunct lecturer, she worked on various research projects on poverty, mining and land issues in Ghana and South Africa. From 2015-2016, she was a research fellow in natural resources management at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Ethiopia. Debrah has published on a variety of topics, including mining and sustainable development, housing in the developing world context, and artisanal and small-scale mining. Her research interests are mining and minerals, sustainability and the energy transition. Debrah is a consultant with the Sustainable Development Strategies Group and is currently working on a second book on the energy transition in Africa.
