It took a lot of strength to not cry during our last discussion today.
I really hope you realize the impact you had on us as students. I don’t remember the names of my dual-credit professors or even most of my high school teachers because they lacked the passion and ability to not only teach but demand attention. I don’t mean demand in a dictator sense but more in the way that we as students WANT to listen. We WANT to know what you have to say, to know your opinions and interpretations. I know you’d probably hate that I put down to uplift, but those weren’t my intentions. I just wanted to set you apart from the rest. Because you’re definitely extraordinary, Dr. Bland.

I’m grateful to have had the privilege of knowing you, even if it was just in a classroom setting. I’ll remember you, Dr. Bland. I wish you and your husband (and your dog) the world and more.

Dr. Bland,
Thank you for your amazing insights and lectures during Human Situation (Spring 2024)! You were an amazing lecturer and always brough unique and nuanced points to the books that we read. Human Situation would not have been the same without you. I know you will go on to inspire many more students and give them a window into the fantastic world of literature and philosophy! All the best to you and good luck at The University of Michigan!

Laura, We will greatly miss you here! From your thoughtful and critical teaching to the way you lead with respect, you have always been an inspiring colleague. All the best to you and yours, and good luck in your new role!
Always, Rikki

We love you sooo much, Dr. Bland. I didn’t think I’d be so impacted my first semester of university, but you did just that. As sad as we are to lose you, we’re so happy that you get to be with your husband again. You deserve it! I’ll never forget my time with you in your discussion session. All the best. 🩷
