How to Apply to the Master of Science in Nursing
If an individual meets the Admission Requirements, they can apply to the Master of Science in Nursing program. Individuals interested in pursuing the Second Degree BSN at UH will need to complete an online application through NursingCAS.
Applicants will need to submit the following to NursingCAS:
- Official transcript(s) from EACH college or university attended, sent directly from each institution to NursingCAS before the deadline. (For timely and accurate processing, students should ensure that all official documents have been submitted to NursingCAS at least 6 weeks prior to the deadline date.) Mailing address is:

- Applicants with International transcripts need to follow additional procedures.
- Evidence of an unencumbered, current Texas Registered Nurse license.
- Resume
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a university faculty and one from an employer. Applicants will follow the NursingCAS References process.
- One page personal statement. The personal statement should include information about your education and experience as a professional nurse to date, why you are interested in graduate education, your career goals for the next five (5) years, why you choose UH for your graduate education, and what contributions you plan to make to our mission at the Gessner College of Nursing and to the advanced nursing practice field.
