Student Resources

At UH, we support your online success and want you to have the proper resources needed to achieve your academic goals. Please view the student resources that are available for our online learners.

Online Tutoring ˃

Online students have access to virtual tutoring sessions via LAUNCH. View the link to see the services offered and the Tutor Weekly Schedule. Graduate student support is also available, please view the Other Services tab for more information.

UH Libraries ˃

Online students have access to electronic resources from the library. This includes databases, journals, requesting a hold, and requesting renewals for books.

Justin Dart, JR. Accessibility Center ˃

Online students can register and submit documentation for any accommodation they might need. This includes extended test and quiz times, note-taking support, alternative format for documents and much more. Off-Campus health care options are also available for viewing.

Counseling & Psychological Services ˃

Online students have access to student counseling services, urgent and non-urgent resources, and CAPS “Let’s Talk” program. This program offers virtual appointments via Zoom to speak about your mental health with licensed therapists.

Testing Center ˃

Online students can utilize the Testing Center for tests that have to be taken remotely and proctored. Please view the Distance Education section on the main site for more information on the process.

Writing Center-Online Consultations ˃

Online students have access to 60-minute virtual writing consultations. These appointments are individual, audio-enabled appointments where students can receive writing support from writing consultants about writing concerns and challenges.

Technology Resources ˃

Online students who have tech support questions can contact University Information Technology (UIT) by texting them at 713-743-1411, Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm.

University Career Services ˃

Online students are able to attend virtual career fairs, view recorded workshops, schedule virtual career advising appointments, and view career resources from University Career Services.

Military/Veteran Services ˃

Online students who are active military members or veterans can access virtual office hours Monday-Wednesday by opening the Teams App and searching for UH Veteran Services Virtual Office.

Technology Requirements

Students enrolled in online courses with the University of Houston should be aware of the following technology requirements to ensure a successful online learning experience. To enroll and participate in online classes, students must use a desktop computer or laptop (PC or Mac) with internet access. Check the requirements below to ensure that your computer is appropriately equipped.

Contact University Information Technology (UIT) at 713-743-1411 for technology support services, including suggested specifications for purchasing new computers. Technology discounts for students are also available via CougarByte. Need financial assistance with a technology purchase? Students who need additional assistance for education-related expenses, especially with technology purchases, are encouraged to call a financial aid representative at 713-743-1010, option 5, to discuss additional assistance options.

Wi-Fi / Internet connection: Use fast.com to check your internet speed. Wireless 802.11ac, wired ethernet, or DSL recommended; minimum Internet Download Speed: 1.5 Mbps; minimum Internet Upload Speed: 1 Mbps
Windows Operating System minimum requirements Windows 10 Intel-based i5 Dual Core 64-bit (x64) processor; 16 GB of RAM, minimum; at least 500GB hard drive
Windows web browser requirements Download the most recent version of Google Chrome or Firefox (free downloads) or use Microsoft Edge. Canvas no longer supports Internet Explorer
Mac Operating System Mac OS X 10.15 or later; Intel Core i5 Quad-Core processor or better; faster processor speeds are recommended. 16 GB of RAM minimum.
Mac web browser requirements Download the most recent version of Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari (free downloads).
Screen size 15" screen recommended
