The Department of Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy consists of eight faculty members who conduct pharmaceutical health outcomes research with emphasis on pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered outcomes research, population health, and translational research.
In addition to providing instruction for portions of the college's Pharm.D. professional degree program, department faculty members offer graduate education and research guidance leading to the Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy Concentration of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Ph.D. program prepares students for research and leadership positions in pharmaceutical industry, clinical research organizations, academia, and state and federal agencies.
The department also houses:
- The Center for Population Health Outcomes and Pharmacoepidemiology Education and Research (P-HOPER Center) aims to strengthen the partnership between public health and pharmacy, help remove the barriers to collaborations, and promote the integration of population-based pharmaceuticals outcomes assessment into community health needs assessments, disease surveillance, and monitoring of health outcomes.
- The Prescription Drug Misuse Education and Research (PREMIER) Center, which is focused on leading research on controlled substance prescription medications, educating key stakeholders involved in the prescribing and dispensing of prescription medications, and developing educational opportunities for practitioners and professional students, and
- The Institute for Community Health, an interdisciplinary research institute of investigators engaged in projects the Institute of Medicine's focus on community health initiatives through the collaboration of scientists and health professionals, agencies and institutions of higher learning.

To achieve the mission, the department will:
1. Provide educational programs to train professional and graduate students with leadership potential:
i. Prepare doctoral level (Ph.D.) research scholars in pharmaceutical health outcomes and policy
ii. Prepare professional pharmacy (Pharm.D.) students in the areas of pharmacy administration, pharmaceutical health outcomes, and policy
2. Conduct pharmaceutical health outcomes and policy research that will benefit the community
i. Grow extramural research support
ii. Enhance scientific productivity through collaboration
3. Provide leadership, service and expertise to the community in the areas of pharmaceutical health outcomes and policy.
i. Increase community engagement
ii. Improve visibility of the department
