Gessner-Wharton Wins Election
UHCOP Alumna Serving as 2019-20 Secretary-elect of Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists
May 20 — Two-time UH College of Pharmacy alumna and Dean's Advisory Council Chair Mallory Gessner-Wharton, Pharm.D. ('11), M.S. ('13), BCPS, is preparing for a new leadership journey following her election to 2019-20 Secretary-elect of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP).
Gessner-Wharton currently serves as director of Pharmacy at Kingwood Medical Center in Kingwood, Texas. After completing her Pharm.D., Gessner-Wharton joined and completed The Houston Program comprising an M.S. in Pharmacy Leadership & Administration from UHCOP and PGY1 pharmacy practice/PGY2 health-system pharmacy administration residency programs from one of seven Texas Medical Center health systems. Gessner-Wharton completed the residency component of The Houston Program at Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston.
In addition to her latest honor, Gessner-Wharton served as 2017-18 president of the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She has been recognized with the TSHP Special Recognition Award for Professional Service in 2018 and the UHCOP Hospital Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year Award in 2017. In 2018, she was appointed chair of the UHCOP Dean's Advisory Council.
