UHCOP Ph.D. Students Among 3 Minute Thesis Competition Finalists, Research Poster Competition Honorees

November 5 — Five students in the college's Ph.D. programs competed in the 3 Minute Thesis^® (3MT) and Research Poster competitions at the 2019 Graduate Research Showcase Nov. 1.

Hosted by the UH Graduate School, the event "is intended to showcase the breadth and depth of groundbreaking research being undertaken by UH graduate students across disciplines, as well as to offer opportunities for cross-disciplinary networking."

Pharmaceutics Ph.D. candidate Victor Lincha was awarded second place in the for his presentation, "Killer Walls: From Death to Life or Freedom," which described his work in the lab of Professor Diana S-L. Chow, Ph.D., FNAI. 

The three other UHCOP Ph.D. candidates and students recognized as finalists in the 3MT were: 

• Pharmacology Ph.D. student Noor Abdulkareem, who presented "Discovering New Treatments for Breast Cancer with a Focus on Safety";
• Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy Ph.D. candidate Qingqing Xi, who presented "Improving Predication of Microvascular Complications in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes using Machine Learning"; and
• Pharmacology Ph.D. student Hanan Qasim, who presented "The Anchoring Protein Gravin as a Potential Target for Heart Failure Treatment."

In the Research Poster Competition, Pharmacology Ph.D. student Razia Sultana Mohammad was received an Honorable Mention for her poster, "Role of Transcription Factor Nrf2 in Regulation of Age-associated Decline in Kidney Function."
