Pharmacist Month Extravaganza
Pharm.D. Students Highlight Role of Profession with Free Screenings, Immunizations and Education at Health Fair Oct. 3 at UH
October 4 — UH College of Pharmacy Pharm.D. students took over the Student Center Plaza at UH Oct. 3 to showcase the vital role of pharmacists as medication experts and patient care advocates with free wellness screenings, seasonal flu immunizations and health education presentations.
October is designated as National American Pharmacists Month, as practitioners and students celebrate their profession and remind the public of their contributions to safe, effective medication use as members of integrated patient care teams through a variety of education and outreach activities nationwide.
More than 80 free blood pressure or blood glucose screenings were provided to UH students, faculty and staff, along with two dozen attendees who received their seasonal flu immunization.
UHCOP Pharm.D. students also educated 240 attendees and passersby on a range of health topics, including opioid overdose reversal rescue medication, immunizations, self-care, medication safety, beverage sugar content and appropriate antibiotic use.
