New PPTR Faculty 

UHCOP Welcomes College Alumni Shantera Rayford Davis and Jodie Gee, Academic Pharmacy Fellow Alumnus Joshua Wollen

September 23 — UH College of Pharmacy recently welcomed three new faculty members in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research: college alumnae Shantera Rayford Davis, Pharm.D. ('06), BCPS, and Jodie S. Gee, Pharm.D. ('09), BCACP, CDE; and Academic Pharmacy Fellowship alumnus Joshua Wollen, Pharm.D.

Following her graduation from UHCOP, Davis completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Harris Health System. She then worked as a clinical pharmacist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., and later as a clinical pharmacy specialist at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center. While maintaining a practice site at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, Davis became an assistant professor and director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) for Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences in Houston.

After leaving TSU and Memorial Hermann, she joined CHI St. Luke's Health-Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center as an internal medicine/drug information clinical pharmacist and most recently served as a clinical pharmacy manager at Kingwood Medical Center. In addition to her multifaceted experience in Pharm.D. curricular/experiential program development, Davis also has helped to establish and manage a variety of clinical initiatives – such as a discharge medication counseling service and an antimicrobial stewardship program – during her career. Davis also has earned the board certified pharmacotherapy specialist credential from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.

In addition to earning her Pharm.D. from UHCOP, Gee graduated cum laude from The Honors College with a B.S. in Biology. Gee completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Harris Health System in Houston and a PGY2 ambulatory care specialty residency at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas. She then held faculty appointments with The University of Texas College of Pharmacy at Austin and in the Pharmacotherapy Education and Research Center in the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio, with a clinical practice site at MedFirst Northeast Clinic in San Antonio. Most recently, Gee served as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacy specialist at Harris Health's Smith Clinic.

A board certified ambulatory care pharmacist and certified diabetes educator, Gee has been recognized for her clinical research presentations at conferences of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American Diabetes Association. She also has been honored for student/resident preceptorship excellence by UHCOP, Baptist Health System and UT College of Pharmacy as well as with the "Pharmacist of the Quarter" award and twice as a "Service First Hero" by Harris Health. Gee will serve as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist and preceptor at Vecino's Denver Harbor Family Clinic.

A chemistry graduate of Drury University in Springfield, Mo., and Pharm.D. graduate of Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions in Omaha, Neb., Wollen recently completed a one-year Academic Pharmacy Fellowship program at UHCOP after four years in community pharmacy. During his fellowship, he undertook a variety of classroom and skill-development teaching, academic research/administrative, and student precepting responsibilities as the college implemented a new Pharm.D. curriculum.

An inductee of the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society and the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Wollen was recognized as the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences Community Preceptor of the Year by his alma mater.
