College Secures 5th Highest National 11-Year Mean on NAPLEX First-time Pass Rates Among Accredited U.S. Peer Institutions

April 29 — According to a statistical analysis by the website ClinCALC.com of North American Pharmacy Licensure Examination (NAPLEX), the University of Houston College of Pharmacy has the fifth highest national 11-year mean (average) for NAPLEX first-time pass rates among accredited U.S. peer institutions.

Developed and administered by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the "NAPLEX measures a candidate’s knowledge of the practice of pharmacy" and "is just one component of the licensure process and is used by the boards of pharmacy as part of their assessment of a candidate’s competence to practice as a pharmacist."

The mean of the college's first-time pass rate from 2009 to 2019 is 98.2%, only one-tenth of a percentage point behind the next highest institution and only 1 percentage point behind the highest institution overall.

"Every institution celebrates when you have a great year on your NAPLEX pass rates, but I think sustained, continual high-achieving results speaks volumes of the quality of our program and the outstanding commitment of our graduates, faculty, alumni and preceptors to excellence in pharmacy education and patient health outcomes," said UHCOP Dean F.
