UH SSHP Chapter's Residency Networking Social Among Professional Development Project Honorees at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
The UH College of Pharmacy Chapter of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists received national recognition for its 10th Annual Residency Mentoring Social at the 2015 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' Midyear Clinical Meeting Dec. 6-10 in New Orleans.
UHCOP was among two dozen chapters from across the U.S. honored with an Outstanding Professional Development Project Award from the ASHP Student Forum.
Hosted by the UH chapter in January of each year, the annual Residency Mentoring Social is a collaborative event open to Pharm.D. students at UHCOP and Texas Southern University. The event provides students with an opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with residents and residency program directors from across the Greater Houston area. The 2015 event drew representatives from more than 19 residency programs and more than 100 students from UH and TSU.
The event features a round-robin table discussion where students are able to learn about specific residency programs, as well as advice on securing and succeeding in a residency program and a health-system pharmacy career. The social is supported by the UH and TSU chapters, the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the ASHP Leadership Speakers Bureau, and the UH Activities Funding Board.
SSHP's Residency Mentoring Social also was recognized in April with the Outstanding Program Awardat the 2015 UH Campus Leaders Reception, which is hosted by the UH Center for Student Involvement.
