New Name, Renewed Focus
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Approves Request to Rename College Department to Better Reflect Vision, Mission
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has approved a request to rename UH College of Pharmacy's Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration (CSA) to the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research (PPTR). Although the THECB approval is effective Jan. 9, the name change will be phased in over several months to ensure a smooth transition in various administrative systems before the department name change is formally in place on Sept. 1, 2015.
"We appreciate the THECB and the UH administration's support of our request to establish an identity that more accurate reflects who we are and what we do," said Department Chair and Professor Kevin W. Garey, M.S., Pharm.D., FASHP. "Our department's new name is more representative of the broad scope of careers and specialty fields – both clinically and non-clinically focused – available in contemporary pharmacy practice. It also institutionalizes our long-standing, but not formally recognized, emphasis on true 'bench-to-bedside, bedside-to-bench' research activities in such areas as infectious diseases, critical care, geriatrics and oncology as well as the integration of evidence-based guidelines into a range of patient-care settings."
