Faculty Members Rustin Crutchley and Lindsay Schwarz Earn Promotions
UH College of Pharmacy F. Lamar Pritchard, Ph.D., R.Ph., has announced promotions for UHCOP faculty members Rustin D. Crutchley, Pharm.D., AAHIVP, and Lindsay Schwarz, Ph.D., effective Sept. 1.
Promoted to Clinical Associate Professor, Crutchley has been a member of the college's clinical faculty since 2011. He is certified as a Practicing HIV Pharmacist (AAHIVP) by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. In addition to precepting students and residents, Crutchley teaches in several Pharm.D. courses, including Advanced Infectious Diseases and Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine. His primary academic and research interests are in the areas of immunomodulatory role of vitamin D in HIV-infected patients and therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacogenomics of antiretrovirals.
In his time at UH, he has developed a strong relationship with adult and pediatric HIV providers in Houston, developed a model to assess pharmacogenomics drug interactions in this population, and recently started a HIV-focused Ambulatory Care/Pharmacogenetics PGY-2 pharmacy residency program, one of the few in the nation.
Promoted to Instructional Associate Professor, Schwarz joined the college in 1997 and has served as an Instructional Assistant Professor since 2011. During her time as a UH faculty member, Schwarz has taught subjects ranging from Pharmaceutics to Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacology. She currently serves as the course coordinator for the Pharmacology I and Pharmacology II sequence in the Pharm.D. professional program.
A champion of the scholarship of teaching amongst the college faculty, Schwarz was appointed the Director of Faculty Development for the college in 2011. While her activities in this office focused initially on providing the faculty with instruction regarding the preparation of lectures and exams as well as the use of novel technologies in the classroom, her efforts, along with the College Faculty Development Committee, have broadened to all areas of faculty development.
Schwarz repeatedly has been recognized as an outstanding teacher at both the college and university level, including named as a recipient of the University of Houston Teaching Excellence Award in 2011. She also has been invited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) for 10 years to write questions for the Pharmacy foreign equivalency exam. In addition, Schwarz has served on several American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) task forces addressing issues regarding awarding of teaching excellence, faculty retention and developing the criteria for the designation of Pharmacy Educator Fellow.
