Cardinal Health Conference Offers New Tools, Insights for Up-and-Coming Pharm.D. Student Leader Watson
UH College of Pharmacy Pharm.D. student Katrina Watson was selected as the college representative to participate in the May 19-21 Cardinal Health Pharmacy Leadership Conference, an annual program that offers intensive leadership and professional development training for rising stars in their future profession.
Entering her third year, Watson already has demonstrated a passion for leadership: She currently serves as the 2016-17 Region 6 Member At-large for the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) and will assume the presidency of the UHCOP Chapter of APhA-ASP beginning in the fall.
"This experience has definitely shaped me for the positions that I already hold and the positions that I hope to be in the coming years," Watson said. "I also learned how to work with a room full of leaders that have a vast amount of ideas and solutions to some of the things that we faced over the weekend. The amount of teamwork activities that we did over the weekend was incredible and every activity was a great learning experience that I will bring back to each of my leadership positions."
The conference program also offered guidance and insight on topics aimed at ensuring success for students on a personal level.
"One of the specific sessions that stuck out to me was the financial management," she said. "Not only did we have a speaker that went over financial management during school and once we graduate, but we got to play a game to give us a reality of what we need to do once we began making money as a pharmacist."
