Dan L. Duncan Institute for Clinical and Translational Research
The Dan L. Duncan Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) supports and promotes translational and clinical research among its partner institutions in clinical care, education and research. The University of Houston College of Pharmacy is a founding member of the ICTR, which is based at fellow founding member institution Baylor College of Medicine.
Other institutions involved in the ICTR include:
- Rice University
- Texas Children's Hospital
- The Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center
- Kelsey-Seybold Clinic and Kelsey-Seybold Research Foundation
- Harris Health System
- CHI Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center
- The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
The major goals of the ICTR are to:
- Catalyze interdisciplinary, collaborative clinical and translational research among the ICTR member institutions to increase the number, quality, diversity and creativity of research projects.
- Create a robust, readily accessible infrastructure to encourage and support multidisciplinary, collaborative clinical and translational research. The ICTR plans to construct a multi-purpose web portal to integrate and maintain the institutional knowledge required to conduct clinical and translational research.
- Attract, educate, and train individuals in clinical, translational, and collaborative research; nurture career development for those who pursue this research, ensuring that collaboration is rewarded, particularly for underrepresented minorities and junior investigators.
- Improve human health and healthcare practice through comparative effectiveness research, development of cost-effective technologies, and educational outreach.
With a current membership of more than 250 faculty and research staff, exciting developments are under way as the ICTR's community of scientists work to foster collaboration, training and promotion of clinical and translational research.
