Faculty Honors
University of Houston Awards
These CLASS faculty members were recognized on April 30, 2015 at the Faculty Excellence Awards ceremony:
Esther Farfel Award Recipient
The Esther Farfel Award was established in 1979 as the University of Houston’s highest faculty award. To receive it, a professor must demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service. The award underscores all that was important to Aaron Farfel. Named in honor of the beloved wife whose warmth and wisdom sustained him for 48 years, and whose presence gave a personal touch to a multitude of university engagements and initiatives, the award recognizes and celebrates the gifts that enable teachers to educate and inform a new generation of citizens and scholars. According to Philip Hoffman, President Emeritus (1961-1977), “It is most fitting that the most prestigious faculty award given by the University of Houston was created and endowed by a man of Mr. Farfel’s superior qualities and devotion to excellence.”
