Lemonte Long, a native of Birmingham, AL began his Higher Education journey at Jacksonville State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. As a sophomore at Jacksonville State University, he discovered his passion for student services and became a Resident Assistant within the Residential Life and Housing Department. While serving as a Resident Assistant, Mr. Long joined the Student Government Association at Jacksonville State University. In the Student Government Association, Mr. Long served as the Chair for the Campus Safety Committee and was awarded the Committee of Year on consecutive terms. Mr. Long served as an Alabama Collegiate Legislature for the Spring 2014 term. This opportunity allowed Mr. Long to draft, present and debate pressing, relevant bills on the floor of the Alabama House of Representatives and make a positive change to the student body he was serving at Jacksonville State University.
In 2017, Mr. Long earned his Master of Arts in Applied Sociology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During his tenure at UAB, he served as a Graduate Assistant in the Housing and Residence Life department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he managed approximately 700 residents and adjudicated first, second, and third visitation policy violations utilizing the Maxient software system. Mr. Long also supervised, trained and helped developed 34 resident assistants in his tenure as a Graduate Assistant.
In 2018, Mr. Long joined St. Mary’s University, where he served as an Assistant Director of Housing and Co-Investigator for Title IX cases. Mr. Long also taught the First Year Seminar Course for freshman students. In this experience, students were able to explore academic skills and resources that enriched their engagement in the St. Mary's community and beyond.
In 2022, Mr. Long joined Texas Southern University serving as an Assistant Director in the Housing department where he provided leadership to the Housing and Residential Life Department and served as a direct report the Leasing Team at Texas Southern University. Mr. Long represented Housing and Residential Life in the New Student Orientation, Starrez Globel Connect and much more.
Now, as the Assistant Dean of Students, Mr. Long is looking forward to focusing on providing direct support, resources, and referrals to students who are experiencing life events that are impacting or interrupting their ability to be successful in college.
