Charles D. Dorn, CCM, is the managing director of The Dorn Group, Ltd. in Rye, New York. Prior to founding his company in 2005, Charles served as general manager of the Union Club of the City of New York for more than 13 years. Prior to the Union Club, he was the general manager of The Chemists' Club in New York City. Earlier in his career, Charles served as the manager of The Petroleum Club of Anchorage (Alaska) and as the assistant manager of The Stock Exchange Luncheon Club (New York). His other hospitality experience includes positions at the Rye Town Hilton, Meadowlands Hilton, Guyan Golf and Country Club, and Parker Meridien Hotel.As managing director of The Dorn Group, Charles has completed consulting projects for various clients around the world, including Windows on The World, Madison Square Garden, Lantana Beach Club in Bermuda, Rolex Corporation and The Rockefeller Foundation in New York City.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston in 1980 and attended The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He continued his education at The Culinary Institute of America and at Beringer Vineyards.
Charles has been involved in hospitality education for a number of years. He is the chairman of the Dean's Advisory Board at Hilton College and serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management at New York University. He has also served on the Business Council of the University of New Haven's Hotel Program and has lectured at the University of Houston, Cornell University, New York City Technical College and the Vocational Foundation in New York.
Charles has been selected for Who's Who in the East, Who's Who of Professionals and Strathmore's Who's Who. In 2001, he was selected as the Tanqueray Club Manager of the Year by his peers. In 1998, he was presented with the Founding Dean's Award, a distinguished alumni award from the University of Houston.
Charles served on the Board of Trustees for Community Synagogue in Rye, and also was the organization's co-chair for its 60th anniversary gala. Additionally, he co-chaired the annual fund-raising effort for the Foundation for the Treatment of Children with AIDS.
Married in 1989, Charles and his wife, Karen, live in Rye. They are the proud parents of Caroline (a freshman at Muhlenberg College), Sam (a freshman at the University of Southern California) and Philip (a senior at Rye High School). In his spare time, Charles is a gardener, cook and wine enthusiast. He is also an avid New York Giants and New York Rangers fan.
