Over the years, contributions made by individuals, corporations, and foundations have enabled the Honors College to create and build an endowment — a stable philanthropic investment that yields secure, significant annual returns. The Honors Endowment has a current market value of more than $9 million.

Guaranteeing support into the future, endowments can fund an array of activities and programs, including distinguished chairs and professorships, student scholarships, or programs. Earnings from the endowment are directed to the donor's area of interest or can be unrestricted.

Endowed Chairs and Professorships

Endowed professorships and chairs provide the Honors College with the ability to attract and recognize distinguished members of the faculty. Donors may establish an endowment or contribute to an existing one. Currently, donors may establish a professorship at the University of Houston in the Honors College with a gift of $500,000.

Dr. Ted L. Estess, Founding Dean of the Honors College, is the first recipient of the Jane Morin Cizik Chair, donated by Robert and Jane Cizik. 

Endowed Scholarships

Endowing scholarships enables donors to make a meaningful difference for students by providing a continuing source of scholarship funds. To remain competitive for the highest quality students, and to ensure that the opportunity for a quality education exists regardless of economic background, the Honors College must be able to offer financial support to students.

You can endow a named scholarship by making a contribution of $25,000 or more to the Honors College. Contributions can also be made to an existing scholarship.

In addition to endowed scholarships, the Honors College welcomes non-endowed scholarship giving. Unlike endowments, these awards provide one-time, immediate financial assistance for students.
