From Military Service to Public Service

The Service to Service program at the Hobby School of Public Affairs connects military veterans and their family members to educational pathways that translate their service, leadership and lived experience into meaningful careers in public service. As the only program of its kind in Texas and part of a national network, it expands access to tailored support for those who remain committed to service.

Developed in collaboration with the Volcker Alliance and We the Veterans and Military Families, this initiative integrates professional development, networking opportunities and career placement support, building a pipeline of future public service leaders.

Eligibility

  • The program is open to Master of Public Policy and Master of Public Administration candidates who are military reservists, veterans or veteran-adjacent. This includes graduate students who are children, spouses or grandchildren of U.S. veterans and who demonstrate an interest in pursuing careers in public service.

Pathways to Success

  • Maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA throughout participation in the program
  • Attend at least two career readiness workshops each semester, covering topics such as resume and cover letter development, networking, personal branding and communication skills
  • Build a professional network by engaging with public service practitioners and veteran support organizations

  • Access funding support for academic conference registration and travel, or for membership in professional organizations
